How to make an Appointment

WHAT WE ARE DOING:

All patients wanting to be seen on the day will be dealt with by a dedicated member of our Same Day Care Team. They will call you back and offer appropriate treatment and care, which may be a face to face appointment, a prescription, telephone advice or a referral. Please call between 8.00am - 1.00pm. Any calls after this time will be ask to call the following day.

BENEFITS OF WORKING THIS WAY:

There is no need to come to the practice at 8.00am to secure an appointment for fear of not getting through on the telephone. Patients who have struggled to ring due to work commitments will be able to ring at a convenient time to suit them before 1.00pm and not miss out. With this system in place we aim to see less demand first thing in the morning and to spread the demand more evenly throughout the day. You will not be asked to call again, you will be treated on the day.

We will be able to offer appropriate treatment and care to more patients using this system.

WHAT WE ASK OUR PATIENTS TO DO:

Please ensure we have your correct contact details and that you will be available on the day to take a call. The receptionists will ask for details to outline of the problem and what outcome you are hoping to see. Some patients may want a prescription, referral, blood test or sick note etc. The more information we have, the quicker and easier it will be to prioritise your call and feedback to you. The doctors assess all requests and may ask a receptionist to call you back to ask further questions or pass on information on their behalf, this allows for the doctor to process more calls and increases availability.

Please be aware that it is the Doctor and not the Receptionist that reviews all information and makes the clinical decision regarding treatment and care.

ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS

Please contact the practice to book an appointment with the practice nurse or GP of your choice. We book two weeks in advance.  If you cannot wait for the next routine appointment offered, please mention this to the receptionist.

You may not need an appointment for a prescription or sick note. Our reception staff can help you if you are uncertain about this or if you are uncertain about what clinic, nurse or doctor you should see.

Appointments may also available for medicals such as HGV, elderly driver fitness to drive and fostering for our own patients. Please contact the surgery for more information as these services may involve a charge both for the medical and for failure to cancel the booked appointment. Please call the appointments line and we will be able to advise you.

HOW YOU CAN HELP THE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM RUN SMOOTHLY

  • If you are unable to keep your appointment please notify the surgery as soon as possible.
  • One appointment is for one person. If you want another member of your family to see the doctor or nurse, please book a further appointment.
  • Appointments with a GP are for ten minutes in duration and it is unlikely the doctor will be able to deal with more than 1 problem
  • Please arrive on time, lateness impacts on other patients and the clinician involved. The Dr/Nurse may ask you to rebook if you are late
  • When arriving at the surgery for your appointment, always inform reception (if possible use our touch screen to check in for your appointment to avoid queues at reception)
  • Sometimes people can forget to tell the doctor all the important information about their problem. It may help to write their symptoms down.
  • If you don't understand what the doctor or nurse says to you, please don't be afraid to ask for a further explanation.
  • It can sometimes help to have a partner or friend with you.
  • If you are seeing the doctor to discuss the result of an investigation or a recent hospital treatment, check with reception first that any important results or letters have been received.
  • Appointments may not be required to have insurance forms completed or renewal of sickness certificates etc. Please ask at reception
  • If you would like a chaperone please speak to the Doctor

Work in a GP surgery is unpredictable, whilst we will try our best to keep to the appointment times there are occasions where this is not possible as we have to deal with emergencies as they arise

 Text Reminder Service

We now offer a text confirmation and reminder service for booked appointments. Please ensure we have your correct mobile telephone number. To opt out of this service please notify a receptionist.
